What course do you follow?
All of our instructors a fully qualified by the BKSA Our school is also a member of the same organisation. We are also fully fledged members of the IKO Everything that we teach strictly adheres to both organisations guidelines.
What happens if I get riding before lesson 3?
During your course we aim to get you to an independent level where you can take a kite out for yourself and kite with confidence. If you get to that stage before your course is over then we just switch you to supervised hire.
Do I need my own kit?
Nope, everything is included in the lesson. However if you have your own wetsuit we suggest you bring it!
What beaches do you use?
We teach at Marazion and Gwithian, both are excellent beaches for learning on.
How long is a lesson?
Each lesson (day) is 1.5 hours if taught privately. If you share the lesson with someone else then each lesson is 3 hours long.
Can I do two lessons in a day?
Yes, sometimes we organise two lessons a day if the weather looks excellent.
What is supervised hire?
Supervised hire is for kite surfers who have reached an independent level. It means that you can take a kite out for yourself, with the knowledge that an instructor is keeping half an eye on you and helping you out if need be. It’s the final step before you go it alone.
What happens if the wind doesn’t blow?
Sometimes the weather just doesn’t play ball. In this case we generally do two things. Option A) postpone for later in the day, or Option B) We offer an alternative activity. There are plenty of sports such as Surfing, Wakeboarding and Paddleboarding that offer lots cross-over skills that will help you in your quest for kitesurfing supremacy.
Kitesurfing Lessons and Courses in Cornwall Learn Kiteboarding with ease at The Hoxton Special
Learning to kitesurf is an extremely rewarding experience. It has a host of benefits to your health and wellbeing. Kitesurfing takes practice and commitment, if you add this sport to your lifestyle you will never regret it.
It’s my first lesson!
If it’s your fist lesson, welcome!
Part 1 will be on the beach, in this part you will learn all about kitesurfing kites and how to control them with power safely. You will start with very small trainer kites and then slowly move on to more and more powerful kites until you are at a full size kitesurfing kite. At this stage you are ready for Part 2.
In Part 2 it’s time to get into the water. In this part you will learn the basics of kite control with Body Drags. These are loads of fun and will get you used to the power and pull of the kite without making things too complicated. As soon as you are happy with the kite by itself it is time to add in the board.
I Want to Ride
If you have had your first lesson and you’re back for more then you know you’ve caught the bug!
In the following lessons we will work on Board Starts and Board Control.
Board starts are your first forays into actually kitesurfing, you will learn to control the board whilst in the water and control the kite so that you can get up and out of the water and start to actually ride.
Once you have mastered board starts we will then start working on your board skills whilst you are up and riding. This will include speed management, stopping, turning and edging techniques.
I want to do tricks!
Once you’re at the stage where you are happily riding up and down it is time to start learning the really fun stuff.
Jumping is a huge part of kitesurfing and for many people it is one of the main reasons they want to start.
In our intermediate lessons you can learn all about Jumping, Transitions, Popping, Unhooking and a plethora of other tricks.
The best kite surfer is the one
having the most fun.
Working Hard To Be The Best Amazing Reviews
As a lover of the ocean I have been curious about kite surfing for some time but nervous to learn it as a late beginner (in my 50s). What a treat to find Angus – he made it so easy and even though it was tricky to get the hang of it and I could easily have been deflated (sic!) he kept me inspired. It may take me a while to leap around on the waves but I am confident enough to take the next step and trust that I will get the hang if I stick with it.
I thought I might have been too old to learn kite-surfing at the age of 45 but Angus was an outstanding teacher. He makes you feel totally at ease and quickly gets you through the gears, ending up with some body-dragging by the end of he first lesson. He’s clearly very passionate about the sport and combines that with great education on the safety aspects. He’s left me hungry for more and I’ll be sure to be back for another lesson to get going on a board. Thanks Angus for a really enjoyable afternoon and introduction to kite-surfing.
Angus arranged a fantastic and useful kitesurf development session. Also offered lots of information and advice about kite spots, tide and weather during our time in area so I could get some good practice sessions in.
Excellent location right on the beach with changing facilities, and of course, their famous “life changing” coffee.

How long is a lesson?
We run two different types of kitesurfing lessons, 2 to 1 and 1 to 1 instruction.
2 to 1 Lessons – 2 Students – 1 instructor
Generally speaking we find that most students respond better to a 2 to 1 Student to Instructor ratio during the beginning stages of tuition. Having another person on the lesson means that you get to tale a rest after each set of attempts and also means that you learn from the other students mistakes. This generally means that beginners learn quicker as they are more energetic and only have to do half of the trial and error.
- 2 to 1 lessons are 3 Hours Long.
- You will only be paired with another student of a similar level.
- If there is no one at your level the lesson will still go ahead as 1 to 1 tuition.
1 to 1 Lessons – 1 Student – 1 Instructor
If you prefer a private lesson that is no problem. Private lessons generally suit those people that are wanting to learn something more advanced than the basics. Most of our private lessons concentrate on board skills, going up wind and jumping. Having said that some beginners find that they prefer the shorter more intense environment of a private lesson. If this is you let us know!
- 1 to 1 lessons are 1.5 Hours Long
- You will have the instructor all to yourself
- Great for learning more advanced skills
